“Whaler Charles W. Morgan” black and white scrimshaw on pre-ban African Ivory by the late Salman Rashidi. Excellent depiction of the Morgan leaving port. Note the small sailing boats in the background. Mounted on a classic ebony stand by the late Ken Fredericks, this would be a fine addition to any scrimshaw collection.
Notice:
This scrimshaw is done on pre-ban African ivory. Since the passage of the CITIES Treaty in 1973, there has been no African ivory brought into the U.S. However, ivory that was in the U.S. prior to 1973 can be legally sold and shipped within the U.S. However, new legislation taking effect in 2016 restricts pre-ban African Ivory from being shipped interstate. It can only legally be shipped intrastate, (within the state). All of our pre-ban ivory is located with our associate in the state of Florida. It can be purchased directly from our website and shipped only to an address within the state of Florida. If one has a relative, trusted friend or business associate within the state of Florida, we can ship to that specified address in order to comply with the new Federal legislation. The scrimshaw can then be forwarded to you and everyone complies with the law. Any questions, email or call us.
“Whaler at Dock” black and white scrimshaw on pre-ban African Ivory by the late Salman Rashidi. Excellent detail by Rashidi. Note the dock worker standing by to assist the newly arrived vessel. In the background one can see the masts of numerous other ships in the busy port. Like the detail of the dory at the base of the pier. Excellent example of Rashidi’s work mounted on a handsome ebony strand by the late Ken Fredericks.

Very thick piece of mammoth ivory bark adds to the allure.
“Nantucket Sleigh Ride” black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory by Salman Rashidi. One of the most dangerous parts of whaling. The whaleboat would often be overturned in rough seas, throwing all into the rough water. Perfect piece of ivory for this scene by the late Rashidi. This rare artifact was probably used as an ice tester or harpoon point hundreds of years ago in the Northern Bering Sea area. Almost all of this type of artifact has been discovered over the past half century. From the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us. Rare to see a Rashidi of this caliber on the market today.
