“Nude Portrait on Boker Knife” black and white scrimshaw on ancient mammoth tusk ivory by David Adams. This discontinued 1003 Boker knife was recently discovered in a box in our storeroom. Years and years ago, we sent these to the late Ken Fredericks who added the mammoth ivory scales. These are the very last ones he did for us and Adams has done the discontinued Boker knife, the late Ken Fredericks, and, himself, justice all the way around.

“Hunting Snow Leopard” color scrimshaw on sperm whale’s tooth by David Adams. Excellent composition by talented scrimshander, Adams. Great amount of specific detail in this one from the forested mountain slope on the left side to the snow draped boulders and underbrush on the right. Not to mention the regal snow leopeard, perfectly rendered by the scrimshander. Quite a bit of fine work at a rock bottom price.

“Bald Eagle’s Prey in Sight” color scrimshaw on large piece of ancient mammoth tusk ivory bark by David Adams. Plunging bald eagle, talons at the ready, has his prey in sight. Chances are he will be successful, judging from the look in his eye as well as the angle of descent. Adams has really worked the eagle’s wings right into the colors of the outer bark. Not many would have the creative capability to recognize this, let alone pull if off successfully. For eagle collectors and wildlife collectors as well, this would occupy a centerpiece in their prized collections. A keeper!
“Ruler of the Skies ” color scrimshaw on ancient mammoth tusk ivory by David Adams. Stunning depiction of bald eagle soaring above snow capped mountains. Adams’ delicate stipple work really brings this piece together. Notice how he as outlined the figure with barely visible blue stipple work, creating an image that pops off the ivory. Thick piece of mammoth ivory perfect for this outstanding work.
“Raccoon Cub in Hollow Tree” black and white scrimshaw on ancient mammoth tusk ivory bark by David Adams. This young guy has a cozy home, looking out at the world. Great composition by Adams using the outer bark as the tree with the hollow hole. Tremendous amount of work getting the black background done. Really, really nice piece, indeed.
“Seductive River Naide” color scrimshaw on large slab of ancient mammoth tusk ivory by David Adams. Sirens were often mentioned in mythology. Most assume that all sirens were ocean sirens as described so powerfully by Homer. Hence, the origin of “siren song”, a song that is beautiful and sweet, but leads to doom. It would be difficult to resist the songs of this beautiful siren. Scrimshander, Adams, put everything he knows about the art of scrimshaw into this masterpiece and it shows. Just look at the transparent water below the surface. Amazing how he pulled that off. The effect of the flowing waterfall in the background is amazing as is the minute detail on the foliage of the damp hills. Love the extra added touch of the braided vines in her hair. The amount of work in this is hard to describe. It took months and months of toil by the artist to achieve this. Also, the thick slab of perfect mammoth ivory is quite rare. This is the type of art that one keeps in the family for generations. Cannot praise this one enough!
