Upset Whaleboat!

“Upset Whaleboat!” black and white scrimshaw on large bull sperm whale’s tooth by Ray Peters. Sometimes the whale wins. Whalers all recognized the dangers of their work, but most felt the payday at the end of a successful voyage was worth the risks. Veteran scrimshander, Peters, has nailed it on this one. Love the remarque on the back of the tooth. This tooth was from a very old whale, judging from the rounded tip indicating decades of wear. Also, the bottom of the tooth has closed together, another indicator of age. Stunning stand created by the late Ken Fredericks, one of the best ever.
