Ranchos de Taos Church

Color scrimshaw on ancient mammoth ivory by Matt Stothart. This famous church has been the inspiration for countless artists throughout the years, but this is probably the only rendition ever done in scrimshaw. As seen from the rear, the architecture symbolizes the sparse, clean lines of the region. The strong earth tones contrasted with the ice blue sky evoke very strong emotions form anyone who has ever admired this famous edifice. Another Cash stand perfectly frames the scrimshaw. Done in 1981, it still has “81 prices on it.
